Soren Toft, maersk Line's former COO, has officially taken over as CHIEF executive of MSC Shipping
Soren Toft took over as chief executive of MSC, the world's second-largest container carrier, on December 2, nearly 13 months after he stepped down as chief operating officer of Maersk.
Toft will report directly to Diego Diego Aponte, President of MSC Group and Gianluigi Aponte, founder and Chairman of MSC Group.
As chief Executive officer, Soren Toft is responsible for managing MSC's global freight operations, including ocean routes and logistics operations.He also sits on the board of MSC's majority-owned Terminal Investment Ltd (TiL).
With 25 years of experience in leadership roles at Maersk and a thorough understanding of the future of the container transport supply chain, Soren is the ideal choice to help lead MSC into the future, Diego Aponte said of the arrival of the new CEO.
Mr Toft added: 'I am very excited and humbled by the opportunity the Apontes have given me.'It has been a great honor and privilege for me to help maintain MSC DNA and lead such a successful company into the future.
Toft joined MSC at a time when MSV was buying a large number of used ships.In the past four months, MSC has purchased 16 ships with a total capacity of 92,900TEU, valued at more than $260 million, according to Alphaliner
