MSC is still buying ships!

Alvin HKSG-GROUP 2020-11-25 16:48:40

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) continues to aggressively increase its fleet with two more ship deals this week, Splash247 reported.

MSC snapped up the 2000 1,730 TEU feeder container ship Amanda D from Peter Dohle Schiffahrts, which has been renamed MSC Panaya.

MSC has been active in the used ship market in recent weeks.Advanced Shipping&Trading and Clarksons both reported that MSC had bought a 5,642 TEU Panama-type ship built in 2006 from Japanese owner Doun Kisen.

Earlier this month Splash reported that MSC had bought six German container ships with capacity ranging from 7,849 to 8,500 TEU for an overall price of $158 million.MSC also purchased the 4,800 TEU Baltic East built in 2005 from Sinokor Maritime for $12 million, the 2,490 TEU Bomar Hermes built in 2006 from Borealis Finance, and the 2,506 TEU EM Athens built in 2000 from European Marine, which renamed it MSC Malena.

If all the deals are confirmed, MSC will have about 206 ships.

Sea-intelligence said in a report last week that MSC could soon overtake Maersk as the world's largest shipping company.
